(Orange, MA) An Orange resident living in an apartment building saved his apartment and his neighbors’ by utilizing fire safety equipment after a power strip caught fire Sunday morning. The resident was woken up by his fire alarm and found smoke and flames coming from behind his bed. The resident was able to locate a fire extinguisher and activate pull alarm in the hallway, which alerted his neighbors and the fire station. The resident extinguished the fire, although it reignited by the time the fire department arrived on scene and they were able to put it out permanently. After this incident, the Orange Fire Department reminds the public that power strips should not be overloaded and should be kept clear of obstacles.
