(Franklin County, MA) Today FirstLight announced the indefinite closure of several facilities in Franklin County. Group events have also been cancelled. The list of closed facilities includes Munn’s Ferry Boat Camping Area in Northfield, Boat Cruise and Riverview Picnic Area in Northfield, Northfield Mountain Trail System, Barton Cove Nature Area in Gill, Turners Falls Fishway Viewing Area in Montague, and Canoe Portage Service in Montague. Bennet Meadows Wildlife Management Area in Northfield is closed for events and Poplar Street Access in Montague is open for self hand carry only. Cabot Camp in Millers Falls, Cabot Wood Fishing Access Area in Montague, and Branch Canal Area in Montague remain open.
“As a precautionary measure we decided to follow the recommendations of the Massachusetts and Connecticut Departments of Public Health to avoid public gatherings by closing down some of our public spaces,” said FirstLight spokesperson Len Greene.
Continued maintenance might expose workers and the public to COVID-19, a risk FirstLight is unwilling to take. Additional Connecticut facilities are closed indefinitely.
