MONTAGUE, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has issued their water quality certification to FirstLight, following a draft certification issued in January.

The certification contains 34 conditions FirstLight must meet and maintain related to fish passage, wildlife protection, water levels, and transparency.

In the relicensing process, the community made their voices heard on wanting FirstLight to be held to higher standards, and while this certification carries more protections for the region, it is unclear if they met the communities’ standards.
