PLAINFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — A nearly five acre brush fire broke out in Plainfield Wednesday afternoon, calling in mutual aid from Ashfield, Goshen, Savoy and the State Fire Control. Units arrived around 2 p.m. to Summit Street and the fire was contained by 6 p.m., before it could spread to the nearby barn and house.

Brush fires have been more common this week with the dry weather and gusty winds creating favorable conditions for fire spread.
