On Thursday, April 2 Governor Charlie Baker ordered the United States of America flags and Massachusetts State flags to be flown at half-staff until April 5, in honor of the soldiers who died of Covid-19 at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. This order comes among growing concerns for both the soldiers housed at the home and nurses charged with their care. Superintendent Bennet Walsh was placed on suspension Monday stemming from the outbreak. Fifteen soldiers have died between March 25 and April 1, 2020, many of whom tested positive for Covid-19. As of Wednesday, Baker announced that all residents of the home had been tested for Covid-19 and the state was moving on to the nursing and care staff.
