GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Western Mass Baseball and Softball championship matchups are all set, with four local teams vying for titles, two of them playing each other.
This evening, the top-seeded Pioneer Panthers take on second-seed Ware in the Class D championship game. The title game will be played at 7:00 at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke. The Panthers punched their ticket to the final with a decisive 5-0 victory over Turners Falls Thursday evening in Northfield. Tonight’s game is a rematch of last year’s title game, a 3-1 10-inning victory for Ware.
On Wednesday, the softball championship games will be played at Westfield State University. In Class D, the Turners Falls Thunder, the top-seed in the tourney, will take on #2 seed Lee at 3:00 p.m. Following that game, at approximately 5:00, Greenfield looks to capture the Class C title. The top-seeded Green Wave will battle #2 seed Franklin Tech. Greenfield recently defeated the Eagles 1-0, handing Tech one of only two losses it suffered on the season.
The state tournament seedings and pairings for baseball and softball will be released on Wednesday, with Preliminary Round play starting on Friday.
