(NORTHAMPTON) – The Franklin County Beacon Hill Delegation is concerned about the comparatively high number of COVID 19 deaths in the county compared to other areas of the commonwealth. State Senator Jo Comerford (D-Northampton) announced Sunday April 5 that the delegation is deeply concerned about the number of deaths, and wants guidance from the state on how to deal with it.
“Today I joined with my colleagues in sending a letter to the Command Center expressing concern about the disproportionately high number of COVID-19-related deaths in the county,” Comerford wrote on Facebook.
“The number of COVID-19-related deaths currently is .16 deaths per 1,000 people, far exceeding any other county in the Commonwealth,” she added. “Put another way, roughly 12% of the people in Franklin County who have tested positive for COVID-19 have died, compared to a current Massachusetts average of 1.8%. I want to thank the constituent that first sounded the alarm about this emerging information.”
The numbers were revealed in a recent article published in Commmonwealth Magazine. The letter was signed by Comerford, and all members of the Franklin County delegation
