(undated) — Communities across the area continue today to deal with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Isaias, which battered the region with high winds and heavy rains yesterday. Downed trees and power lines were reported in multiple towns including Deerfield, where six roads were either closed or partially so. Christian Lane in Whately also had to be shut down because of a tree over the road. In Greenfield, a large tree came down across Silver Street near the intersection of Country Club Road.

Around 200,000 Massachusetts homes were without power at the height of the storm. A number of communities in Western Franklin County began yesterday with a tornado watch for a storm cell which moved north through Charlemont and Rowe on the way to Vermont. No evidence of a twister was confirmed, however.

There was also significant damage reported in Hampden and Hampshire counties, including the Florence section of Northampton, where several large trees came down damaging homes.

Governor Baker says state officials are in touch with utility companies and individual communities, and the commonwealth is prepared to provide financial support to affected areas.

A large tree branch lies at the corner of Main and Franklin Streets in Greenfield on Tuesday. Strong winds from Tropical Storm Isaias caused tree damage around Franklin County on Tuesday.
