(Deerfield, MA) – – Local emergency management officials are beginning to warn residents to begin making preparations now for the arrival of Tropical Storm Henri this weekend. Current forecasts indicate that Henri has the potential to become the first hurricane to strike Southern New England since Hurricane Bob, almost 30 years ago to the day, in August 1991.

Earlier today, the Deerfield Police Department issued the following statement regarding Henri preparation efforts

“The Deerfield Police Department continues to monitor hurricane HENRI and potential impacts to our community.
Residents should be prepared for low line flooding and power outages. At this point, impacts do not appear to be major, however a small westward shift in HENRI’s track could increase our chances of wide spread power outages and more moderate flooding.”

Flooding has been a major problem in Deerfield this summer, especially along a stretch of Routes 5 and 10 near Richardson’s Candy Kitchen. Drivers are advised to avoid standing water and flood prone areas during Henri’s arrival, which is expected Sunday into Monday.
