(Greenfield, MA) — It’s Veterans Day and there are a number of events scheduled around the area in honor of those who have served our country in the armed forces. In Greenfield, the annual Veteran’s Day parade will form in the Middle School parking lot at 9:30 a.m., and will start at 10:00. The parade will head south on Federal Street; west on Main Street to the Veteran’s Mall where ceremonies will be held. This year’s speaker will be Master Sergeant Danielle Pelletier, a recent Air Force retiree with 20 plus years of service. The Greenfield High School marching band will also be on hand to play patriotic music throughout the parade route.
Other events around the area include, in Athol, ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the park on Starrett Avenue, across from the Uptown Fire Station. Remembrances will then be held on the Uptown Common, the monument across the street from Town Hall, and at Veterans Park.
In Montague, the Soldiers Memorial Committee will hold a ceremony at Soldiers Memorial Park beginning at 10:30 followed by the “11th Hour Ceremony,” courtesy of the Montague Elks Club
In Whately, a dedication ceremony will be held at 1 for the newly improved veterans memorial in front of Town Hall on Chestnut Plain Road.
In Orange, American Legion Post 172 will hold its Veterans Day ceremony at Memorial Park in Orange at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
