TURNERS FALLS, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — After a disappointing ouster from the state vocational small school football tournament, the Franklin Tech Eagles have shifted focus to their final remaining game: the annual Thanksgiving Day meeting with the Vikings of Smith Vocational.
Franklin Tech was unable to sustain a strong start against Cape Cod Regional Tech in the vocational school quarterfinals, seeing a 16-14 halftime lead ultimately turn into a 30-16 defeat.
The Turkey Day series between Franklin Tech and Smith Vocational dates back to 2018, with the Vikings winning that first meeting. The Eagles then ripped off four consecutive victories over their new rivals before Smith Vocational gained a measure of revenge in a 16-8 overtime win played through an icy rainstorm in Easthampton.
Franklin Tech comes into the showdown with a 7-3 record, while Smith Vocational is 4-6 after consecutive losses to Greenfield and Pathfinder Tech.
The game kicks off at 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Tech in Turners Falls. You can listen to the game live on Bear Country 95.3 and online at bear953.com.
