(Western MA) Temperatures dropped early Tuesday morning as the wind chill in parts of Hampshire and Franklin County reached -10 below zero. On Monday, the national weather service put out an advisory for frigid temperatures in the area for the hours between 1am and 4am Tuesday morning. Temperatures during the day Tuesday are forecasted to a high of 12 degrees with wind gusts up to 9mph from the northwest.
Amy Timmins, Vice President of Community Relations at Service Net, said although beds are full in the 30 bed shelter on Wells Street in Greenfield, space can be made for anyone seeking shelter during this cold season in the common areas and an effort is then made to find more suitable accommodations as soon as possible. Timmins also said that the Resource Center in the same building is open during the day.
Anyone who sees a homeless dog out in the cold can call their local Animal Control Officer or Police Department said a representative from the Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter. Both agencies are able to get homeless animals to the shelter if they need assistance.
