(South Deerfield, MA) – The majority of teachers at Frontier Regional School are concerned about the idea of returning to the classroom this fall in the wake of COVID 19. That’s according to a recent survey circulated by the Frontier Regional Teachers Association, whose president is Alison Walter.
“Fifty-seven-point-five percent were either somewhat uncomfortable or very uncomfortable coming back in person,” Walter said. “When asked if there was a preferred model to start the fall, 60 percent preferred remote.”
Walter said the FRTA membership is also seeking clarification on a number of COVID-related policy matters, including how to handle sick time and what to do if a student removes his or her mask in class, among others. Frontier School Superintendent Darius Modestow said the district will do its best to accommodate teachers who are concerned about returning, which would be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
The Frontier Administration is still formulating a final plan to open n the fall. A final proposal must be sent to the state by August 10th.
