(Greenfield, MA) Thursday afternoon Greenfield Police responded to Main Street near Federal Street  for reports of a bus that had crashed into a building. A member of Greenfield Fire Department was also on the scene. Steven Connell, identified as the bus driver, allegedly then chased a nearby male and yelling that the male individual had a gun.

Officers were able to confirm that the individual did not have a gun. The individual, along with two juveniles, had been on the FRTA bus and had exited near Hope Street. The individuals then started to walk down Main Street when the bus veered off the road and crashed. Connell then allegedly ran after the one individual and attacked him before the firefighter pulled him off.

Connell was transported to the hospital where he reportedly kicked a hospital employee. Connell has been charged with Civil Rights Violation, Assault and Battery, Assault on Ambulance Personnel, Assault With Intent to Murder While Armed, Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Marked Lanes violation. Connell is being held without bail.
