GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher expressed at Wednesday’s City Council meeting that while SNAP benefits are being restored, there is still increased need for food support in the community, something Mayor Desorgher expects to grow in coming months as health insurance costs increase and fuel assistance delays impact community members.
Currently, fuel assistance applications are only being processed in emergency situations.
Mayor Desorgher also said in her update to the Council that health insurance increases in the double digits are anticipated for the FY 2027 budget and she expressed a desire for the community to shop local as a strategy for building resilience to in the local economy.
