(Boston, MA) Governor Baker joins President Biden in calling for a gas tax holiday. With inflation at the high rate of 8.6%, the Governor is looking for ways to help the most financially vulnerable residents including seniors, families, and renters.

Governor Baker and Lieutenant Governor Polito said in a joint statement, “We support passing legislation to suspend the gas tax in Massachusetts as President Biden called for today. Thanks to a balanced budget combined with surplus tax revenues, there is more than enough funding available to suspend the gas tax, pass our tax relief plan and invest in Massachusetts’ future. It’s time to act and cut taxes for the people of Massachusetts.”

Just before Governor Baker’s request to Legislature, President Biden asked Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months. This would save drivers 18.4 cents per gallon.
