GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield Community College is celebrating their annual first-generation week for the fourth year, which began on November 8th with national First-Generation Day and stretching through November 15th by showcasing first-gen faculty and staff in solidarity with first-gen students who make up more than half of GCC’s student body, meaning more than half of GCC students’ are the first in their family to attend college. 

Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success Shanni Smith-Arsenault said about the events, “We are thrilled to celebrate our first-generation students. Their determination and resilience are constant sources of inspiration. As a first-generation college student myself and a beneficiary of MA public higher education I know just how meaningful this opportunity is for our students.”
