(Montague) — Many area residents have been wondering when the General Pierce Bridge between Greenfield and Montague City will fully close for repairs. Not just yet, according to Montague Town Administrator Steve Ellis. Ellis this week said MassDOT needs to first complete work on the Route 2 project.
“The paving work on Route 2 is tentatively scheduled to begin on April 19, but of course that is weather-dependent,” said Ellis. “So we are not anticipating that work being completed before that week at least, and (MassDOT) will not close the General Pierce Bridge until they have completed the work on Route 2 so as to not create issues with the flow of traffic on both sides of town.”
Despite the slight delay, officials still expect the General Pierce Bridge project to be completed by the spring of 2023.
