(Gill, MA) The Gill Fire Department has ordered a new fire pumper with support of the residents and the town government.

In May of this year, the Gill Fire Department sought the town’s support for a warrant article to replace a 1987 fire engine in order to more safely and efficiently serve the town. At the Town Meeting on May 23rd, residents came out in support of the article and voted unanimously to approve the request. Then, at the town election on June 21st, the Debt Exclusion ballot to purchase the new engine was voted in.

This is to be the first new custom fire apparatus the department has purchased in over 27 years, “arguably the best fitting functionality for our community,” according to the Gill Fire Department’s Facebook page. The order for the Pierce Responder pumper has been made with Allegiance Fire & Rescue.

According to Allegiance, the fire pumper will be a 4-door 4×4 with a 1,250 gallons per minute pump and a 1,000 gallon water tank as part of its “impressive functionality.”
