(Greenfield, MA) The Green River Swimming Area remains closed after parasites were found present in the water on July 26th. According to the Green River Recreation and Swimming Area, the water must pass multiple tests to ensure public safety for swimming and has not been able to pass those tests to date. State and local Departments of Public Health have advised Green River Recreation to delay further testing until enough rain has come through to flush out the river. While the Green River Swimming Area will not reopen quickly, other bodies of water have been able to recover from high levels of bacteria this summer including the Ashfield Lake, Laurel Lake, and Lake Wyola.
