(Greenfield, MA)  — There may be some “funny money” circulating around the Greenfield area. Green River Farm Stand owner Jennifer Williams-Frangie reported receiving what’s believed to be a counterfeit $20 bill at her business on Friday. Williams-Frangie said the fake 20 was discovered by bank officials in a deposit made by the business. Greenfield Deputy Police Chief Bill Gordon said no official complaint has been filed with the department, but said phony bills do show up in Greenfield “from time to time.” Merchants or anyone handling cash are encouraged to closely examine any 20’s they receive to ensure that they are authentic.
