(Greenfield, MA) Mayor Wedegartner and Greenfield City Council are urging the Massachusetts General Court to pass H. 3053, “An Act Relative to Tax Deeds.” This act would abolish home equity collection beyond the debt due.
Many Greenfield residents came to speak during public comment on the issue of “equity theft” or “tax title taking”, including Mitch Speight and Joan Marie Jackson who have been personally impacted by this practice.
Councilor Katherine Golub wrote a resolution which City Council passed and signed Wednesday evening, that urges state legislators to support this act. Mayor Wedegartner also wrote to legislators in a letter.
