(Greenfield, MA) — Greenfield city councilors will continue to serve four-year terms. The Greenfield City Council this week rejected a charter change proposed by At Large Councilor Phil Elmer which would have changed all council terms from four years to two. Elmer believes the shorter terms would encourage more people to become in local government. Opponents of the change argued that it could create the potential for a complete overturn of the council in an election, leaving the body with a lack of experienced members.
