GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield Mayor Ginny Desorgher commented on a discretionary freeze on spending in the city departments.
Desorgher said that with both federal and state funding to the city shrinking, the freeze was necessary to address overages in the current year’s budget. New hires will also be considered carefully.
When looking ahead to next year’s budget, planning is well underway and Desrogher said the insurance cost is projected to be 19% higher, an “unsustainable” consistently double digit increase over the past three years.
