(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield Community College recently announced a $120,186 grant for the new Transition to Community College Program. The grant comes from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a three year grant. This program will assist adult learners, and has been approved to cover the tuition of 15 participants. The grant also covers fees, texts, and supplies for those students.

“GCC’s program will offer stability to some of our most affected community members by making education more accessible,” said Tonya Blundon, interim Director of Advising, Career, and Transfer at GCC.

The program will begin during the Fall 2020 semester and includes required classes, a college success class, and electives. Students will supported with intensive advising, meant to strengthen their academic confidence and college level skills. Greenfield Community College is partnering with The Literacy Project, Center for New Americans, the Internal Language Institute, and the MassHire Franklin Hampshire Career Center.

“The Transition to College program targets nontraditional students and supports them as they transition to higher learning,” said Judith Roberts, executive director of The Literacy Project.
