(Greenfield, MA) — Greenfield city councilors are once again preparing to discuss whether to go with a split tax rate for the coming fiscal year. The council’s Ways and Means Committee will begin discussing the issue at its meeting next Tuesday. Supporters of the split rate say it will provide a much needed property tax break to homeowners, who opponents fear the change will negatively impact the city’s business owners by forcing them to assume a larger share of the tax burden.
