GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Last night, the Greenfield City Council voted in favor of establishing an Opioid Use and Prevention Commission to inform the city on issues related to opioid use, overdose and prevention.

The Commission will have seven members including individuals directly involved in the opioid crisis along with city officials.

The most contentious aspect of establishing the Committee was the stipend of $3,000 annually to Committee members, a number larger than what other city volunteers receive for their work.

Councilor Marianne Bullock confirmed that the funds will not come out of the city’s budget, but rather from the Opioid Settlement and that reimbursement for their time and in some cases, publicly identifying some members as involved members of the opioid crisis, was strong reason to support the stipend.
