GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Greenfield Fire Department has rung the final alarm for Captain John Whitney who has passed away after a battle with occupational cancer, according to Fire Chief Robert Strahan. Captain Whitney served as a firefighter since 2001 and retired in May of this year due to cancer. During his time with the Department he served in roles such as Fire Prevention Officer and Fire Investigator.
