GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Following Greenfield Fire Captain John Whitney’s brain tumor diagnosis and the retirement of Lieutenant William Taylor, the department will be making some staffing changes to accommodate the schedule.

Fire Chief Robert Strahan announced there will be a lieutenant test this fall to make a promotion and a new firefighter has been hired. Additionally acting Captain Kimball will be joining the day shift and working closely with Deputy Chief Peter McIver on operations and planning.

Chief Strahan said there has already been two selections made for temporary lieutenant positions for the time before an official promotion. Eight candidates were interested in the position and two were selected from that pool.
