(Greenfield, MA)  — A landmark Greenfield cinema reopens to the public this week.

The Greenfield Garden Cinema will reopen as part of phase 3 of Governor Baker’s reopening plan on Friday July 10th. In accordance with Commonwealth and CDC guidelines the theater will be taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID19. In addition to operating on a reduced capacity of 25 people per screen to allow social distancing, the theater will be using ultraviolet wands to disinfect seats and armrests between showings. The theater has also added an additional time between films to allow thorough cleaning.

As part of its reopening week, the Garden is also offering a number of classic films. Disney cracked its vault and is allowing the theater to play Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back. The Garden is also hailing back to its roots with two black and white films: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington starring Jimmy Stewart and Casablanca starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

“We are so excited to see these timeless films on the big screen.” said co-owner Isaac Mass.

The Garden is rounding out its showing with modern classic comedies Anchorman and the Muppet Movie.

“We have limited seating and many of these classic films will only be available for one week” warns co-owner Angela Mass, “so we hope people come before they are gone.”

A new chair lift allowing for full access to five of the Garden’s seven theaters by motorized wheelchairs has been completed and is only awaiting final inspection before it is authorized for use. The theater has also used the down time to apply for a beer & wine license and anticipates adding a selection by end of summer.
