(Greenfield, MA) — There may be joy in Mudville this season after all.
The Greenfield Board of Health has scheduled a meeting for July 2 to reconsider a previous vote to ban “contact” sports in the city of the summer. The vote forced the Greenfield Minor Baseball and Softball leagues to cancel their seasons, and triggered criticism among coaches and parents, who felt that the board’s ruling was both arbitrary and unnecessary, given the precautions which were being put in place.
In response to that criticism, Greenfield Health Director Valerie Bird announced that the board will meet at 10:30 am July 2. Any reopening plans must be submitted via email to Bird by June 24. Anyone with questions can contact Bird at (413) 772-1404 extension 2100.
