(Greenfield, MA) — Greenfield High School graduates its Class of 2020 this weekend, and the event will not go undocumented, thanks to the efforts of the city’s local access television and radio station.
Greenfield Community Television (GCTV) has agreed to assist GHS staff and faculty in not only recording the event, but also ensuring that families participating in the ceremony will be able to hear and view it in real time.
“With the current state of the world, this one was going to be very different from previous years,” GCTV Executive Director Nick Ring said of Saturday’s event at the Franklin County Fairgrounds. “School officials have been very good about including GCTV in the planning process and incorporating our ideas, concerns, and suggestions.”
Ring said GCTV plans to do a multi-camera shoot at the event, which will take place on the infield of the fairgrounds track. A stage will be set up on the infield, and graduates and their family will attend in their cars similar to a drive-in movie experience. There will be a series of speakers and graduates will line up on foot at cones set a proper distance apart. They will go on stage one-by-one to pick up a “goodie bag” from a table. One or two family members will be in a parallel line and will go in front of the stage to take photos and videos. Then they will meet by the side of the stage and have their photos taken together before returning to their vehicles.
Following the event, a parade will run up to and around Greenfield High School, which will also be captured by GCTV’s cameras. At the event itself, Ring said families sitting in their cars will be able to listen to the audio of the event over their car radios on WMCB 107.9 FM, which is the public access radio station run by GCTV. It will also be available via at wmcb.net. The main production will be live streamed to GCTV Channel 15 and to GCTV’s Facebook, Youtube, and Twitch accounts as well as recorded for later playback.
The ceremony is set to begin at 10 am Saturday May 30 at the fairgrounds. The rain date is Sunday. A decision on any potential postponement will be made Friday.
