(Greenfield, MA) — The demolition of Greenfield’s former fire station can now commence. The Greenfield Historical Commission last night voted to allow the former firehouse to be torn down to make way for construction of a new public library. The commission vote came after a contentious, at times profanity-laced public hearing which featured interruptions from protesters calling for preservation of the building, which they feel is historically significant. Many of those same residents are opposed to the library project as well.
