GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The city of Greenfield has issued their annual livestock registration and inspection notice.

The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources requires that all farm animals are inspected and reported annually, including those not on commercial farms.

In Greenfield, animals should be registered with the Health Department who manages the inspections and reports.

Greenfield Issues Annual Livestock Registration & Inspection Notice

Do you own chickens, cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, ducks or other farm animals?
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) requires that all farm animals are inspected
and reported annually. Animals should be registered with the Greenfield Health Department in order to facilitate
inspections. This requirement applies to all livestock, including those not on commercial farms. Inspections are
performed by the Greenfield Animal Inspector under the direction of MDAR.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Barn inspections are designed to:
• Get a good census of the domestic animal population of the city.
• Be sure that all animals appear to be in good health and free from disease, and
• Observe animal housing and ensure ample food and water are supplied.

Note: Avoiding registration of your livestock will not preclude you from an inspection. Inspections are random
and will be performed between October 1st and December 31st each year
