GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The City of Greenfield is launching a Citizens Academy for selected attendees to learn about City operations from municipal staff, tour facilities, and engage with personnel with the goal of enhancing trust and transparency in local government. Applications for the academy are due this Friday, October 3rd and are available at this link.

Greenfield Launches Citizens Academy to Promote Civic Engagement,
Understanding, and Transparency
The City of Greenfield is excited to announce the launch of Greenfield’s Citizen Academy. This new program is an opportunity for residents to learn about how the City works, have their questions answered, and help the City understand resident concerns.
Attendees will participate in a series of courses on City operations led by municipal staff from various
departments. Some courses will include a tour of municipal facilities, and all will offer opportunities to engage with the City’s personnel.
The Citizen’s Academy is an opportunity for residents to literally and figuratively see City Hall, the Department of Public Works, and other areas of our government from the inside, enhancing transparency and trust in government.
Applications are currently open to residents who are interested in attending the Citizen’s Academy. Space is
limited, and applications are due by Friday, October 3rd. The brief application is available at this link.
Classes will run from 3:30 PM to around 5:00 PM on the following dates:
• Tuesday, October 14th
• Tuesday, October 28th
• Wednesday, November 12th
• Tuesday, December 9th
• Tuesday, January 13th
• Tuesday, January 27th
• Tuesday, February 10th
• Tuesday, February 24th
• Tuesday, March 10th
• Tuesday, March 24th
• Tuesday, April 14th
• Tuesday, April 28th
• Tuesday, May 12th – Possible makeup date or final class.
Locations will be provided to attendees prior to each class.
 “Citizens academies are becoming more common in municipalities, and we are excited to bring this innovative practice to Greenfield,” said Erin Anhalt, the Mayor’s Chief of Staff. “We plan on offering the Citizens Academy on an ongoing basis, assuming our initial course is a success.”
