(Greenfield, MA) – After years of planning and preparation, the city of Greenfield breaks ground Thursday on it’s new $20-million-plus Greenfield Public Library.
“This ground breaking represents a dream come true for so many in our community,” Greenfield Public Library Board of Trustees Chair Doris Cowdrey said, “Our new library will be a significant community asset, with opportunities for enhancing everyone’s life.”
This event will be held at the site of the new Greenfield Public Library (currently the City Parking Lot at 426 Main Street on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 10:00 am and include remarks from Mayor Roxann Wedegartner, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Greenfield Public Library Board of Trustees, and the Greenfield Public Library Building Committee.
“I’m so excited to celebrate this milestone for our Greenfield Public Library Building Project. Many thanks to the thousands of citizens of Greenfield who have contributed their time, creativity, and support over the past 10 years,”According to Greenfield Library Building Committee Co-Chair Ed Berlin, “In fact, it is this citizen commitment to the important role our library plays in our City and to the shared vision of providing a modern, energy efficient, state-of-the-art library to absolutely everyone in Greenfield for generations that has inspired us to reach this moment.”
“We are breaking ground in Greenfield in 2021 – the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and the dedication of folks who have been committed to this project since day one,” Mayor Wedegartner said. “We are also building an extraordinary city asset to be enjoyed by everyone for the next century or more. I’m thankful for everyone responsible for helping to get us here today.”
