(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield’s Mayor Roxann Wedegartner has been elected the 2023 first vice chair of the Women Elected Municipal Officials (WEMO) steering committee. This committee is a working group of the Massachusetts Municipal Association.
“After witnessing, earlier this month, the inauguration of the first female pair to be elected governor and lieutenant governor in any state, I am honored to be selected for this position,” said Mayor Wedegartner. “Women leaders continue to smash glass ceilings, and it’s thanks in large part to organizations like WEMO.”
Mayor Wedegartner served as the second vice chair in 2022. This year the leadership team is led by Chair Beth Casavant, a Select Board Member from Shrewsbury. Mayor Wedegartner is first vice chair, second vice chair is Samantha Perlman, a City Councilor in Marlborough and Directors Valerie Gilman, City Council President in Gloucester and Yolanda Greaves, Select Board Member in Ashland.
WEMO was started by the Massachusetts League of Cities and Towns in 1970, one of the first associations of women public officials in the United States.
