(Greenfield, MA) — Trick-or-treating will go on as usual in Greenfield this Halloween.
Greenfield Mayor Roxann Wedegartner said she has no plans to cancel Halloween this October 31st, which she says is not the purview of public officials.
“I don’t even know how that gets done, it’s not a government function,” Wedegartner said. “I know it’s been done in the past for various reasons, but not this year.”
Wedegartner said it “will be up to individual homeowners and parents” to decide if they want to welcome trick-or-treaters on Halloween Night.
Wedegartner said one event which won’t be happening is the traditional Rag Shag Parade through downtown, which had to be cancelled because of safety concerns related to COVID 19. The parade had been scheduled for October 30, but instead, Wedegartner said the Greenfield Recreation Department has scheduled a “drive through” Halloween event at Highland Park
“There will some activities and parents can drive through and people will be out there giving out candy,” Wedegartner said. “It should be a lot of fun.”
