(Greenfield, MA) — There will be no aerial spraying for mosquitoes in Greenfield this year. The Greenfield City Council voted in an emergency meeting last night to opt out of a state program which calls for aerial spraying to control mosquito-borne illnesses such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Members of the Greenfield Board of Health argued in favor of opting out of the mandated spraying, which they say is unnecessary given the city’s status as a member of a regional mosquito control district.
