(GREENFIELD) — Greenfield’s homeless population will be receiving some much-needed supplies in the coming days. The Greenfield Police Department has received 50 backpacks, filled with food, toiletries, blankets, hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks. The backpacks were donated by “Pedal Thru Youth”, a Springfield-based charity organization headed up by Robert Charland. Extra cases of new blankets were also given.
Local homeless shelters historically have been challenged to fulfill the needs of the homeless population, and the problem has been exacerbated by the Covid 19 pandemic. The backpacks arrived in Greenfield on Monday. Officers from the police department will be in charge of distributing the supplies.
