GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Newly appointed Greenfield Police Chief Todd Dodge was sworn in at a pinning ceremony on Tuesday evening at the John Zon Community Center.

Dodge was appointed Chief by Mayor Ginny Desorgher on August 26. Dodge was sworn in as acting police chief in February 2024 following the retirement of former Police Chief Robert Haigh.

Dodge acknowledged the problems the police department had encountered in recent years, including a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former officer. Dodge pledged to lead the department through any difficulties that arise.

“My promise? We will work quickly to identify and correct our mistakes, and we will be transparent in the entire process,” said Dodge. “We get nowhere by running and hiding from our problems. We will take steps to be inclusive and progressive.”

Desorgher said Dodge is the perfect person to lead the city’s police force.

“Chief Dodge leads with enthusiasm and kindness,” said Desorgher. “In a short time, he has already advanced several community-based initiatives that have brought great energy to our city.”

Dodge has spent his entire law enforcement career with the Greenfield Police Department, starting as a reserve officer in 1998.
