(Greenfield, MA)  — New radios are on the way for the Greenfield police and fire departments. The Greenfield City Council has approved a $163-thousand dollar Free Cash transfer to pay for the new radios. Fire Chief Robert Strahan said the current radios are 15 years old and largely obsolete. The bulk of the purchases are being financed by the state. The council approved the funding despite the plea of a number of recovery advocates, who argued in favor using at least some of that money to assist the city’s homeless population.
