(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield Public Library Foundation has made a second payment of $500,000 to the city of Greenfield for the construction of the new library, for a total of $1 million so far. The Library Foundation committed to $2 million to support the project and are making payments to the city has funds are received in the form of pledges and gifts.

Greenfield Public Library Foundation President Jeanne Canteen said, “We are pleased to make our second payment toward the new library to reduce the burden on taxpayers. We’re excited to see the new building taking shape and we look forward to fulfilling our commitment of $2 million in the future.”

The project is on track to be completed in May of 2023. Currently, the library project will cost almost $20 million and is funded in part by the Library Foundation’s $2 million contribution and a $9.4 million grant from the Massachusetts Public Library Construction Program.
