GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — It’s been a good start to the summer season for the Greenfield Recreation Department.
Sunday night’s Independence Day Celebration and fireworks display was a success, even if the festivities were delayed by one day due to severe weather on Saturday.
Recreation Director Christy Moore says she is thrilled the Green River Swimming Area has remained open for all but one day since opening for the season.
“It’s nice to be able to be open, and as long as Mother Nature cooperates with us, we have a beautiful facility that the public has access to to cool off,” said Moore.
The park had suffered through long-term closures for swimming due to persistent flooding rains last summer and an extreme drought two years ago.
Moore says the Recreation Department is looking for lifeguards. Anyone interested in one of those open positions can get information and an application online at greenfieldrecreation.com.
