GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Greenfield School Committee had a tie vote Wednesday on the matter of having two school resource officers in the city, 3 – 3.
Police Chief Todd Dodge noted at the meeting that the FBI was recently investigating social media threats in Greenfield a day after the Georgia school shooting last week at Apalachee High. Those threats were deemed not credible, but Chief Dodge says it “seems almost imminent” after presenting data showing the increase in school shootings in recent years.
Superintendent Karin Patenaude sent an email to the school community explaining the Greenfield resident involved in the August social media post was not a registered student and did not name Greenfield Public Schools or any other specific school in their post.
The School Committee will continue discussion on the topic of school resource officers at their next meeting,
