(Greenfield, MA) At Wednesday’s Greenfield School Committee meeting, a motion was approved in support of implementing the use of Yondr phone pouches in the middle and high school. The pouches will lock in cell phones during the school day using a strong magnet.
The program will initially cost $16,000 to purchase the pouches. Staff members may also be participating in the program using a different form of the pouch. The Greenfield Public Schools held an informational session on August 8th at Greenfield High School with a representative from Yondr who explained how the pouches work.
Springfield Central High School also plans to use Yondr pouches this coming school year and Chicopee High School has already begun using the pouches. Beyond schools, the pouches have also been used at music and comedy events and even weddings to keep people engaged through the creation of cell phone-free zones. Celebrities such as Dave Chapelle, Chris Rock, Donald Glover, and others have supported the use of Yondr pouches.
