(Greenfield, MA)  –Greenfield school students won’t have to worry about missing lunch this fall. Greenfield School Food Services Director Eliza Calkins says her department is prepared to ensure that everyone gets fed–just like they have been since the pandemic started.

“I want to reassure families that school meals will be served under all of the (educational) models being considered, and will be available to both in-person and remote learners,” Calkins said.

One of the concerns about going to a remote format is the possibility of students missing school lunch, on which many youngsters and their families depend. Calkins said her department has served 136,996 meals to students since March 16. The Greenfield School Committee is leaning toward a “remote-plus” school schedule, which will consist of a mainly remote curriculum with some in-classroom instruction.
