(Greenfield, MA)  – Greenfield’s municipal swimming area is expected to open sometime this month, but exactly when is not known.

Greenfield Recreation Director Christy Moore said plans are underway to open the swimming area, but the biggest stumbling block may be proper staffing.

“Obviously, with COVID 19 hitting us hard in early spring, lifeguard classes that usually happen at the YMCA and local pools were cancelled,” Moore said. “So we’re trying to figure out how many lifeguards we are going to be able to hire, and from there we will figure out how many hours we’ll be able to open.”

Moore says the department can begin planning for opening the pool under the Phase One guidelines announced recently by Governor Baker.
