(Greenfield, MA) Beginning Tuesday, May 31st, trash sticker prices will be going up in Greenfield. The 33-gallon bag will cost $3, a 50 cent increase and the 13-gallon bag will cost $2, a 25 cent increase.
This increase comes as a result of a voided contract with Community Eco Power after they filed for bankruptcy last year. Public Works Director Marlo Warner said, “Cancellation of our contract sent us scrambling to find a place to send our trash.” Greenfield entered into a bridge contract to bridge the gap between the end of the previous contract and July 1st, when the Greenfield DPW hopes to have a new long-term contract.
Between the town entering a more expensive bridge contract, along with rising costs of handling, materials, and diesel fuel, the increased prices for stickers were deemed necessary. This is the first increase in sticker price since 2020 when the last contract was signed.
