Greenfield’s Mayor To Decide Main Street Tree Removal Request

(Greenfield, MA) — The fate of a series of shade trees along Greenfield’s Main Street is in the hands of the mayor. Greenfield’s Tree Warden says Mayor Roxann Wedegartner will decide whether the city will comply with a request from Garden Cinemas owner Isaac Mass to take down the trees Mass says are blocking the view of his theater’s marquee, which he plans to upgrade as part of the expansion of that business. About 30 people attended a tree hearing Friday, many of which are opposed to the idea. No word yet on when a final decision on the request will be made.
